September '08 Featured AZ'er: RAVI's 2002 A4 sedan

September 1, 2008 - By Audizine Staff
User Name: RAVI
Real Name: Ravi Bhatia
Location: Livermore, CA, USA
Year of Vehicle: 2002
Model of Vehicle: A4 quattro sedan
Engine of Vehicle: 1.8T

When life gives us lemons we have two choices; we can get sour about it, or we can make lemonade. So when life throws a deer at the front of our car we can either get all pissed off and cry, or we can use that opportunity to build from. While I'm pretty sure our friend Ravi here might have shed a tear or two at first, when everything settled down he used his brush with wildlife to make a good thing even better. This month's Featured AZ'er has had numerous up-and-downs (and not to mention, various sets of wheels). He's really learned a lot about both the car and himself over his past few years of ownership. These Audis just seem to do that to some people, and Ravi (whose Audizine username is coincidentally 'RAVI') is one of those enthusiasts.

Not only does Ravi's 2002 A4 have a mod list a mile long, but he's the kind of guy that does a lot of the work himself or with the help of friends. That hands-on do-it-yourself mentality is always a commendable thing to see, especially in the fast paced hustle-and-bustle lifestyle of Silicon Valley where he resides. This of course may also be the reason this car is able to look and drive the way it does today. A few of the most notable mods include a set of Eibach Pro-Street Coilovers, body parts by Oettinger, a customized stereo system, a big set of Brembo brakes, and the current set of shoes are a set of nineteen inch DPE GT-7s in "Titanium Asphalt". Under the hood there's a plethora of parts from the likes of Revo, Forge, Neuspeed, and 034, with murmurs of a big turbo kit in the near future.

While we've had Featured AZ'ers from all over the world, and a number from Southern California, we're extremely happy and excited to have Ravi and his A4 be the very first to represent Northern California and the Bay Area. It's a fine example of what can be done with Audi's B6 platform, both inside and out. While we do feel sorry for poor Bambi, we're happy that both Ravi and his car were able to see another day. As you can see Ravi's managed to make himself lemonade by the pitcher-full, and left the haters to drink their own haterade.

Future Modifications

I currently have a S4 Rear bumper that has been sitting in my garage waiting for paint so that will go on first. I would love to go BT for that extra power since I have most of the supporting modifications for that.

Q (Audizine): So, how long have you owned this A4?
A (RAVI): I've owned this vehicle for over two and a half years now.

Q: How has your ownership been during that time?
A: I was lucky to find this car with the extended certified pre-owned warranty. The biggest thing I've had replaced was the transmission and just four coilpacks.

Q: Think you'll be getting another one anytime soon?
A: I hope to see myself in a B8 A4 or S5 in the future. I plan to keep this car for a couple more years though.

Q: Is this your first Audi?
A: This is my first Audi. I came from the JDM scene and had an 1999 Acura TL. The Acura TL was a great car but had one flaw which was its glass transmission. I was on the 4th one within two years of owning that car. I got fed up and sold it and bought the Audi. Awesome choice I must say.

Q: How long have you been into Audis and into the European tuning scene?
A: This is my first European car but I've always been a fan of BMWs and Audis growing up.

Q: How long have you been into cars in general, as an enthusiast?
A: Ever since I could remember! I grew up with playing with Hot Wheels and had a few RC cars as well. When I bought the Acura, I did most of the labor myself and still continue to do it with the Audi with the help of some friends. I've hosted a few car meets with all Audis and even our largest meet at the San Leandro Marina with over 150+ cars from all European makes and models all just for fun and to bring European car enthusiasts together.

Q: Where do you think that passion and enthusiasm comes from, can it be traced back to anyone or anything?
A: I don't think it can be traced back to anything besides my youth and the love I've grown with cars.

Q: Speaking of love, what do you most love about your car?
A: I love the front end and I love the stance my car has. I can just stare at my car and not get sick of looking at it.

Q: What's your biggest peeve in regards to the car, the one thing you dislike the most?
A: One thing I hate most is how slow the car was when I purchased it. But that's what modding is all about. I hope to be at 400+ HP with this car by the end of the year. Another thing that bugs me is the peeling interior. Other than that, I can't really complain that much since I've changed most of the things I didn't like about the car already.

Q: Can you explain your modding style? Do you prefer more go, more show, perhaps a combo of both?
A: (laughs) My modding style is pretty distinctive. Coming from the JDM scene I mixed the style with the European look and got what you see here. I do prefer more show over go, but I've tried balancing it out with engine mods as well.

Q: Do you like to do the work yourself, or do you leave that for a trained professional?
A: I do prefer to do the work myself and with friends since that way I have more money to do other mods.

Q: Which mod are you the most proud of or happy with?
A: I love the sound of my Neuspeed exhaust hooked up with the PSI test pipe. It sounds awesome!

Q: So what is your fondest memory of owning, modifying, or driving this vehicle?
A: Some of the guys on AZ might remember this but my infamous deer accident has helped me get my car where it is today. A deer hit my car while I was driving 40-50mph and caused over $5k in damages to my front end. I was able to purchase some aftermarket parts in replacement of the OEM parts. If that deer didn't hit me, I highly doubt I would have as much mods as I do now. I wanted to go with a simple theme on my car and nothing too aggressive looking like it is now. Also, me being a rim whore is somewhat what the guys on AZ will always remember me as. (laughs)

Q: What would be in your dream two-car garage, if money were no object and you could have any vehicle that you wanted?
A: Tough question. The first car would be something for the weekends. I would choose an Ibis White Audi R8 V12 TDI (if they produced it, and if not then the regular R8) with Carbon Fiber accents. For the weekdays it would have to be a Basalt Black Porsche Cayenne GTS. V8 + manual FTW!

Q: What do your friends and family think about your passion for Audis?
A: My friends push me to modify my car more and more. Then on the other side, my family thinks I spend to much time/money on the car for no reason.

Q: How does your love for cars and Audis affect your life? Does it play a big part at all?
A: Doesn't affect my life so much but it has changed my driving style. I have to go up/down driveways "hella" sideways and dodge potholes as if I was driving on a minefield.

Q: What brought you to Audizine, and how long have you been with us?
A: I had browsed the site in 2005 but decided to join around January 2006 when I sold my Acura and made my mind up on getting the A4 instead of a BMW 3 Series coupe.

Q: When you're not on Audizine, or out playing with the Audi, what do like to you do for fun?
A: I play PS3, Xbox 360, basketball, football, billiards, hanging out with friends, and other stuff to keep myself busy.

Q: Do you have an interesting day job? Care to talk a little bit about it?
A: Nothing interesting, just do sales with T-Mobile.

Q: Any word of advice for your fellow enthusiasts, a bit of wisdom you'd like to impart on the masses?
A: Not trying to sound like an ass, but use the search button and try not to flood the forum with repeat questions when the question has been answered before. Other than that, being different can be a good thing. A wise man once said, "If everyone is thinking the same, someone ain't thinking."

Q: Wow that was deep, nice way to wrap things up. Before we go though, would you like to give any final thank-yous or shout-outs?
A: I would like to thank the Distinctiv Tuning crew; Justin Choi (he took the pictures! www.jchoiphotography.com), Steve Chan, Ronnie Cheung, Bo Zweig, Kiran Rajendran, Jeevon Barn. Also a few good friends that are car freaks like me; Mike Bajer, Adam@SPP Woodhams, Avinash Kumar, Amandip Hira, and Amar Johal. Can't forget the the local Audizine and B6 A4 whores. Also, the few shops that I trust my car with, MACH III, BR Racing, Greg@DTH, and Audiomobile.
